What you need to do:
The incumbent uses his/her training and experience as a Certified Medical Technologist, Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, Molecular Technologist, or Cytogenetics Technologist to supervise the performance of sophisticated laboratory testing. Monitors testing and other processes for quality and efficiency and supports new test/procedure development and project completion. Supports compliance with all regulatory agencies such as CAP and The Joint Commission. Directs and supervises technical and other staff involved in the performance of all phases of testing and reporting, including evaluation, scheduling, orientation, assessing competency and training. Makes effective recommendations on employee hiring, transfer, promotion, termination, wage changes and disciplinary actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems in a timely manner within limits of position. Performs all functions related to Kronos timekeeping and payroll.
Directs and supervises laboratory personnel responsible for clinical laboratory testing and procedures. Responsible for efficient and timely reporting of results and for the accuracy and quality of testing and procedures performed. Ensures that staff follow policies and procedures. Troubleshoots client issues, procedural and equipment issues. Reviews work for abnormal or invalid results and resolves discrepancies and errors. Recognizes results requiring referral to Medical Director and/or provider. Assists in performance of critical procedures. Interprets and evaluates complex, difficult or unusual test results. Serves as technical advisor to other personnel performing testing.
Directs and supervises personnel including evaluation, scheduling, timekeeping, orientation and training. Assesses competency of staff to perform tests and procedures.
Models and enforces the personnel policies and organizational standards of Baystate Health. Resolves personnel issues, administers discipline, referring questionable or serious occurrences to the Manager. Assists in interviewing job candidates. Makes effective recommendations on hiring, transfer, promotion, discipline, termination and similar actions. Participates in preparation and delivery of employee evaluations.
Under direction of Manager and Medical Director, is responsible for evaluation and development of new procedures and methods, for validation of new tests and equipment and for the research required to support all of these activities. Evaluates results, reports findings and makes recommendations for changes/revisions to methods. Maintains procedure manuals in compliance with CAP and other regulations. Revises procedures and writes new procedures.
Oversees training of new employees, students, fellows, residents and medical students. Prepares lectures, in-service programs and training materials. Assists and advises staff involved in training. Supports continuous staff development and staff advancement via departmental Career Ladder. Attends workshops, seminars, professional meetings and conferences in order to maintain current knowledge of relevant scientific disciplines.
Supports the departmental quality system. Reviews quality control results and acts upon abnormal or unacceptable results. Assists the manager in conducting audits and monitors, preparing routine and special quality reports. Reviews reports and results of proficiency testing, ensuring that discrepant results are fully investigated with documentation. Makes recommendations for process improvements. Maintains working knowledge of the standards of accrediting organizations. Supports inspection preparation and participates in inspection processes.
Ensures that the laboratory and equipment are maintained in safe, clean and working condition. Maintains proper inventory of operating supplies. Maintains required reports and reviews records. Observes and enforces all laboratory safety procedures.
As per departmental schedule, participates in “on call” coverage of the service for nights, weekends and holidays. May oversee entire department in absence of the manager.
What you need:
B.S. Degree in laboratory discipline
Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience in the specific discipline supervised by the incumbent.
Must pass criminal background check. Must possess a valid drivers license and be 21 years of age. Motor vehicle report will be reviewed based on information obtained. Candidate will also undergo drug testing.
High level verbal and written communication skills required. High level organizational and analytic skills required. High level computer skills required (Word,E XCEL, departmental LIS, etc). Must meet competency requirements for technical areas supervised
ASCP or other recognized laboratory certifying organization
